Service Intervals:

We've made every effort to design this product to last and be low maintenance. However, all high-performance parts need some kind of preventative maintenance to perform optimally. We recommend cleaning and regreasing the damper as soon as any noise or negative feeling occurs in the device. We also offer service kits and replacement chain rings that can be replaced by following this guide.

Should a squeak appear in the actuation, a small drip of chain lube around the seals of the damper should fix this.

Looking for a replacement cover or mount plate? Send us a message and we can take it from there.

Chain Damper Render

Isolates Feedback

Removes unwanted drivetrain feedback when descending, resulting in a quiet and confidence inspiring ride with a chainless feel.

Chain Damper Render

Improved suspension sensitivity and feel

With less drivetrain feedback, you'll become more aware of your bikes suspension movements, with an increase in grip and confidence.

Chain Damper Render

Less rider fatigue

By isolating the rider from drivetrain feedback, you'll feel less tired at the bottom of a descent, allowing you to ride to your limit for longer.

How Does it Work?

Chains have significant mass. This uncontrolled mass is free to flail, causing unwanted feedback and noise. We believe this plays a bigger part in unwanted ride characteristics than other sources of negative drivetrain feedback.

The springs in the Chain Damper capture the chain's energy, smoothing out the ride.

The Chain Damper isolates the rider from  drivetrain feedback which is caused by the chain flailing as we descend. Bringing the chain under control allows the rider to be more closely connected to subtle suspension action.

EFBE Tested

Engineered to excel in the ISO 4210 fatigue test, the Chain Damper is built to handle all the force you can put through your pedals, whether you're on a power hour loop or racing full throttle on a big weekend between the tape.

    Durable Rings

Chain Damper Chain Rings have an eye catching natural finish due to the chemical reaction that takes place when Hard Anodizing T6-7075 Aluminium. This type III process adds a significantly thicker and more resistant coating compared to standard "type II" anodizing but limits the colour choice to a 'natural' or black finish.

    Simple Servicing

The Chain Damper has been designed to last a UK winter so you won't need to service it often.  It is is triple sealed and the sbody features a "labyrinth" design to minimize any water and dirt ingress.

When it does come to servicing your Chain Damper, all you will need is a 3mm Allen key and some grease. Don't believe us? Check out the service guide here.

    Free From Creaks

By integrating the chainring directly into the Chain Damper, we've achieved an incredibly stiff and creak-free design. The crank interface is built seamlessly into the front plate of the damper, allowing us to create the best possible product without being limited by the traditional BCD chainring design. This design ensures maximum durability and performance by eliminating unnecessary noise or flex.

Easy to fit, looks great and makes my bike eerily quiet and settled. Would definitely recommend if you’re looking for the next level in performance on your rig.

I bought the Chain Damper and my bike which had a noticeable pedal feedback changed completely! As I use flat pedals I constantly had to repositionate my feet, now the ridding feels calmer with a lot of composure and less noisier. There weirdest thing is the pedaling gap that I was not used to in my MTB, only in my BMX equipe with a coaster, the feeling is the same. For high speed downhills and really rough terrain is pretty perfect!

The chain damper is a pro upgrade for my Evil Insurgent's Delta suspension. Like silk...

Great product for DH. Initally I had a strange feeling putting pressure on the pedals with the hard springs in the damper but then after only a few rides the damper came to life and it feelt butter smooth. Had some problems with fitting but the awesome customer support helped out asap. The chain damper delivers as intended. 🇸🇪

After fitting the chain damper to my HB916 v1 I instantly notice how much quieter my bike was. The suspension moves so much more freely now and it is a big difference from beforehand. Even being a high pivot! Would highly recommend one. Super smooth

Made this purchase as a trial to see if it helped with racing and genuinely surprised how much it seemed to smooth out rough parts of the tracks!

These people are experts MTB in general, and the products they developed are only top tier and topping that with a very very good customer support.

Product does what it is advertised to do, however due to the nature of my bike’s linkage and the use of a 690 POE hub…the pedal feedback I am feeling has not been completely eliminated by the chain damper. I have NO complaints to the product itself, and I can say Matt’s personal touch during the transaction is especially appreciated.

great, thanks!

Bought the rimpact chain ring as I was experiencing quite a bit of kick back when jumping my bike. Which is because of the high engagement hubs I’m using. I’ve only been out on the bike twice since fitting it and the difference is night and day. Very impressed once funds allow I’ll be back for the steering damper

I ordered a Chain Damper a few weeks ago.

Shipping from UK to Germany was way faster than from Germany to Germany.

The feeling from no Chain Damper to Chain Damper is a difference like day and night. üôÇ

Great product, nice contact, lovely people.

Works great! Keeps the drivetrain silent and the bike feeling calm.

The only other chain definitely advice I have used is an O-Chain so I was basing my first ride on that. The rimpact felt so smooth with really nice feel on the bike and my chain doesn't make any noise at all. With the heavy spring in the Rimpact you do get a bit of a springer feeling when pedaling around but since it's on my DH bike that doesn't matter to me at all. Overall this the best bang for your buck anit pedal kickback device on the market hands down!

Very nice customer service. Tristan was great

The bike is quiet, like it doesn't have a chain. The Rimpact also helped me with my broken ankle. I don't have as many bumps in my legs.

I haven’t used or installed it yet. But I’ve been a big fan and supporter of Rimpact since the inserts.

Very easy to get a view of all the steps.

J

It does exactly what they advertised. The only think that I have still some getting used to is pedaling. I would like to have a control knob to turn it on ou off like the O Chain.

Amazing service and good updates on delivery

Helps a lot even on short travel trail bike. Used with trail springs.

You don’t know what you got till it’s gone.

On opening the smart, recyclable packaging of the Rimpact chain damper, one is presented with a beautifully crafted component –British engineering at its best (think Hope, Bergtec,…). The chain damper has a good, robust feel to it, which might distress weight-saving freaks, but given its location at the bottom bracket, I don’t foresee any problems at all of this slight additional weight, at least when descending.

On the opening weekend at bike park Leogang, I started with 2 descents of Flying Gangster with the original chainring. The bike (Commençal FRS) felt smooth enough, and I couldn’t really imagine much improvement.

After exchanging the chain ring for the Rimpact chain damper (easy, the FRS required no additional spacers), I pedalled to the lift station and then from the top of the lift to the trailhead (partly steep up). Although it’s possible to make the pedalling feel “strange”, if you pedal (also in flats) with a smooth, round action, you pretty much completely eliminate the play. I’m sure this will only become more natural.

But now to the whole point of the chain damper: descending. Within 30 metres of dropping in, it became clear to me that I had previously had no idea of what smooth feels like. It was like riding chainless but nevertheless with a whole cassette of gears at your disposal. The chain damper eliminated all the “noise” at the rear end - not only the noise in terms of unwanted sound, but more the chatter, kickback and general interference. The rear end felt composed like never before, and this feeling increased as I wrote on. And Flying Gangster is not even rough - it’s fast, but has no rocks or roots to speak of.

I’m not a racer (nor do I have any intention of becoming one), so I don’t know if this device will make you faster. However, for those riders who value descending above all else (like bike park riders such as myself), this is an incredible piece of kit. Descending 6-7,000+ vertical metres a day without all that chatter at the rear end, can only make you feel fresher and more focused on the job at hand in the latter part of the day.

You don’t know what you got till it’s gone. And boy am I glad all that chatter is gone.

FAQ

How does the Chain Damper pair with a high/low engagement hub?

It works great with both!  The Chain Damper works to reduce drivetrain feedback regardless of the points of engagement you have.

Does it work on a Hardtail too?

Yes, and arguably offers even more benefit due to the harshness of the solid rear end on Hardtails.

What Chainlines is it available in?

The Chain Damper is boost, T-type and DH compatible . Super Boost and other chainlines are mostly compatbible but you may need to adjust BB spacers to get the correct chainline. If you have a query regarding your particular bike please reach out and we can help confirm compatibility.

Why isn't there a travel adjustment so I can customize the feel?

Put simply, this would break the device functionality.  Reducing the rotation angle by 25% will half the effectiveness of the device's ability to smooth out chain forces. We've precisely calculated the required rotation angle and spring rate to ensure maximum performance. You can however swap out between the two different spring rates included with your Chain Damper.

Which springs come preinstalled in my Chain Damper?

We ship the 30-32t units with trail springs installed and the stiffer springs included separately, with the opposite for the 34-36t units.

Is it compatible with my Chain?

As long as the chain is a 10,11 or 12 speed mountain bike chain that is also compatible with Shimano and SRAM 11-12 speed options then it will work.

Does it reduce pedal efficiency or create a spongy feel?

No, once the springs are compressed moments after applying pressure to the pedals, the chainring is engaged and there isn't any efficiency loss or noticeable spongy feel. You'll feel a soft top out on the travel of the ring when lightly engaging the crank but this serves to further isolate drivetrain forces and vibration.

Does it work with High Pivot Bikes and Idlers?

Yes. Idlers and HP bikes tend to have seat stays that sit super close to the chain undoing a lot of the advantages gained from reducing chain growth and shortening the amount of unsupported chain between the BB and the rear axle. If you watch high speed footage of these types of bikes you'll see plenty of chain slap and thus energy transfer into the frame and chain ring when riding rough terrain. The Chain Damper will still cut the majority of this feedback and noise from the drivetrain and produce a super smooth ride quality.
